The development of modern information and communication technologies requires changing the information infrastructures of higher education institutions and other research institutions. This change is a major topic within higher education in Germany. More than ever, agreements, cooperation, recommendations, and standards are required.
The German Initiative for Network Information (DINI) was founded in order to coordinate and to foster the handling of these changes. DINI is committed to developing information infrastructures and thus improving the information and communication services in institutions of higher education and in learned societies, namely regionally and supraregionally.
By establishing agreements with and by the distribution of tasks among the infrastructure facilities the range of services can be improved significantly. Beyond this cooperation among the infrastructure facilities the joint development of standards and recommendations is necessary.
DINI is an initiative of four partner organizations:
The executive board consists of two representatives from each of the four partner organizations. The sterring committee consists of the members of the executive board members and four additional representatives from each of the four partner organizations. The partner organizations elect all board members for the duration of two years.
